Gordon Davies was out of luck as Fulham and Bristol Rovers had to settle for a share of the spoils after a low quality relegation six-pointer at Twerton Park.

The veteran Welsh striker saw a goal contentiously chalked off for offside before being denied by a brave piece of goalkeeping from Tim Carter, who fly-kicked the loose ball to safety after denying Davies in a one-on-one.

Fulham’s defence was regularly stretched by the home side with Brian Cottington clearing a John Scales header off the line before Cliff Carr did brilliantly to block an effort from Bob Newton. Midfielder Leo Donnellan was booked as the Cottagers clung on desperately during a late period of Rovers pressure that saw a strong penalty shout waved away when Jim Hicks appeared to bring down Newton.

FULHAM: Vaughan; Oakes, Hicks, Carr, Cottington, Elkins (Kerrins 76), Donnellan, Lewington, Barnett, Davies, Pike.
