A crestfallen Dean Coney was left counting the cost of an incredible miss after Fulham lost a five-goal thriller at Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

The former England under-21 international failed to hit the target from close range when he was unmarked in front of an open goal and was said by manager Ray Lewington be inconsolable in the dressing room after an enthralling contest show the home side emerge victorious.

Warren Joyce, Steve Thompson and Tony Caldwell grabbed the goals to seal Bolton’s first win of the calendar year – with strikes from Kevin Hoddy and Kenny Achampong proving academic for the away side.

FULHAM: Vaughan; Oakes, Hicks, Carr, Cottington, Marshall, Scott, Hoddy (Donnellan 75), Barnett, Achampong, Coney.
