Midfielder Justin Skinner burst onto the scene as a promising teenager during the club’s darkest period and went on to play more than 150 games for the first-team before being sold to Bristol Rovers in August 1991 for £130,000. Skinner made his debut in a Football League Trophy defeat at home to Southend in early 1987 before becoming a fixture in the first-team the following season and popular with the fans for his whole-hearted style and commitment, with no little skill, in central midfield.
