Committed centre back Keith Oakes made 87 appearances in two seasons at Fulham having signed from Gillingham in August 1986. He moved onto Peterborough United and later became a cult hero at Newport County, whom he captained to Welsh Cup success in 1980 and then starred as they remarkably reached the European Cup quarter finals the following year.
