Eighteen year-old striker Kenny Achampong scored his Fulham debut to prevent Oxford United from heading back to the top of the Second Division table.

Oxford’s second successive defeat in London – following a narrow reverse at the hands of Crystal Palace a fortnight ago – represents a significant setback to Jim Smith’s promotion push. Fulham were in control from the outset with Steve Hardwick saving well from Leroy Rosenior and Rob Wilson as the home side dominated the first half.

Achampong was lively throughout and his 64th minute goal was richly deserved as Ray Harford’s side moved up to eighth place after an impressive home win. The visitors failed to clear their lines after a strong run from Paul Parker and Rosenior hooked the ball back across the box, where his strike partner did fantastically to volley home from close range amongst a crowd of players.
