Midfielder John Beck, who had began his career at Queens Park Rangers, joined Fulham from Coventry City for £80,000 in the summer of 1978. He made more than a hundred appearances in four seasons at Craven Cottage, helping the Whites win promotion from Division Three in 1981/82 – his final campaign at Fulham.
