The great Bobby Moore joined Fulham from West Ham United in March 1974 from £20,000. The World Cup winner quickly helped to boost the belief of a talented young side – and he played in all twelve games as the Whites reached the FA Cup final in 1975. The Hammers, of course, won 2-0 and Fulham were beaten by Middlesbrough in the Anglo-Scottish Cup final. He wasn’t able to achieve his ambition of helping the club back into the top flight and, indeed even with the signings of George Best and Rodney Marsh, spent his final season with the club battling relegation. Moore, a cultured centre back and perfect gentleman, sadly died of cancer aged just 51.
