Determined midfielder Alan Slough arrived at Craven Cottage from Luton Town when his former manager Alec Stock signed him for Fulham in August 1973. He started at left back but Stock’s decision to shift him into midfield was a masterstroke. His work ethic and energy added a new dynamism to the engine room and Slough started all of Fulham’s twelve matches on the way to the FA Cup final in 1975, scoring the winner in the second third round replay against Hull City at Filbert Street. He also found the net against Nottingham Forest in the following round. He captained the club for a year before joining Peterborough United as a player-coach in 1977. Slough sadly died in March 2021 having bravely battled Parkinson’s disease.
