John Lacy was scouted by then youth-team coach George Cohen and signed for Fulham on professional terms from Kingstonian in July 1971. He eventually replaced Ernie Howe at centre back alongside Bobby Moore and became a commanding part of the defence that helped the Whites reach the FA Cup final and Anglo-Scottish Cup final. He starred in a 2-1 win at his boyhood club Everton in the remarkable run to Wembley and made 192 appearances for the club before moving to Tottenham for £200,000 after seven years at Craven Cottage.
