Prolific goalscorer Allan Clarke was persuaded to join Fulham by manager Vic Buckingham in March 1966. He scored 20 goals in a superb 1966-67 season as the Whites finished comfortably clear of the drop. ‘Sniffer’ became wildly popular with the Fulham fanbase, hitting 27 goals in the 1967/68 season despite the Whites eventually going down. He was controversially sold to Leicester City for £150,000 following Fulham’s relegation, going on to win nineteen England caps – scoring ten goals – before winning the First Division title and two FA Cups with Leeds United. He had a brief managerial career and then ran a soccer school in Scunthorpe for many years before retiring.
