Stan Brown came into the Fulham side as a young centre forward but became one of the most consistent wing half’s in the club’s history. He was an industrious worker, an outstanding tackler and a good distributor of possession. His first goal for the Whites was the winner that beat Everton at Craven Cottage in September 1962 – with the Toffees going on to lift the title that season. Brown was part of the famous ‘Great Escape’ side in 1966 and stayed loyal to the club despite two relegations, being ever-present in 1969-70 and a regular as Bill Dodgin’s team won promotion from the Third Division the following year. He dropped out of the side under Alec Stock and left for Colchester United in December 1972. He made 397 appearances for Fulham, scoring nineteen goals.
