Winger Roy Dwight scored a remarkable 57 goals in 80 games for Fulham between 1955 and 1958. Renowned for his powerful shots, he came through the club’s youth system and scored in his debut at Birmingham City in March 1955. He scored a superb hat-trick to beat Liverpool in April 1956 and was in the London XI that beat Lausanne in the semi-final second leg of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1957.
He left Fulham for Nottingham Forest – for a reported £10,000 – and went on to score the opening goal in the 1959 FA Cup final against Luton Town before breaking his leg in a tackle with Brendan McNally. Forest held on to win the trophy 2-1 but, unfortunately, Dwight – the cousin of Elton John – was never the same player again. He sadly died against 69 in 2002.
