Former Southampton striker Doug McGibbon became only the second Fulham player to score a hat-trick on his debut as he inspired Jack Peart’s side to a 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle at Craven Cottage in January 1947. He found goals harder to come by in the remainder of his Fulham career – scoring eighteen in 42 games before signing for Bournemouth in September 1948.
