Jack Peart plucked inside forward Trevor Smith from Charlton Athletic in March 1935 after the striker had scored six goals in 23 games. He hit 21 goals in a hundred appearances for the Whites, whom he helped reach the FA Cup semi-finals in March 1936, before moving to Crystal Palace for £2,500 in January 1938. He returned to Craven Cottage to guest for Fulham during the Second World War.
