Fulham folk hero Frank Penn spent more than half a century with the club after signing from Vicar of Wakefield FC as a teenager in 1915. He quickly became first choice left half after breaking into the first team in 1919 and shone during Fulham’s run to the quarter finals of the FA Cup in 1926, which saw the Whites beat both Everton and Liverpool before losing to Manchester United. Penn made more than 450 first-team appearances for Fulham, eventually losing his place to Jack Finch in 1931. He retired as a player towards the end of the 1933/34 season, joining the backroom staff in 1934 and taking over from Bill Voisey as chief trainer in 1934. He died shortly after his retirement in 1965.
