Stratford-born striker Bert Pearce joined Fulham from Leytonstone in 1911, making his first-team debut in a 1-0 defeat at Bristol City in September. He scored 22 goals in his first season at Craven Cottage – making him the club’s top goalscorer – and hit hat-tricks against Leeds City and Leicester Fosse. He remained a regular until the outbreak of the First World War, by which time he had scored fifty goals in 97 games, and never played again.
