Fulham manager Marco Silva wanted more from his side in the second half after the Whites were narrowly beaten by Arsenal at Craven Cottage this evening.
The Gunners went back to the top of the Premier League after Leandro Trossard’s second half strike proved enough to win the televised London derby. Speaking during his post-match press conference, Silva felt his side didn’t pose enough of a threat in the second half having made a strong start.
“We have a lot of absences right now, but the attitude from the players, the work ethic, our organisation most of the time was there. Arsenal is in a great moment; it’s a tough side to play against. It was a better first half from us. I would like to see us in the second half to do more or less what we did in the first 30 minutes, but Arsenal in a moment obligate us to do things that we don’t like.”
The Fulham head coach also revealed that Joachim Andersen picked up a hamstring injury in the first half – although captain Tom Cairney’s shoulder problem doesn’t appear to be as serious.
“We have some injuries now. joachim Andersen is out, Tom Cairney is out. Joachim has a hamstring injury. He felt something. Now it’s just for us a matter of time to know if it’s something more serious or a minor injury. That is really what will come in the next few hours or days after the exams, because with a muscle injury, it’s just [too early] to realise how serious it can be.
“Tom Cairney’s [injury] was something in his back. He felt it when he jumped for one ball. Doesn’t look so serious. That’s a different one; it was a knock there. He was not feeling good. I fear that next week he’s going to be another absence for us.“
Narrow defeat but another loss and another 3 points dropped.
Quite worrying- the number of injuries that seem to be accumulating.
All of our threats came down the right with Wilson, at least, willing to have a crack. On the other flank, Iwobi was anonymous and looked much better when he moved inside.
Surely it’s time for Kevin to actually start a game so that we can properly assess what we spent so much money on.
Still bewildered by Silva’s adherence to the hour mark before changing things up and, IMO, apart from his one slip up to allow Gyokeres in, Cuenca was excellent.
We are way too good to go down but we need to start picking up points or we could get dragged into a dogfight.
