Gillingham full back Paul Watson has decided to follow in Darren Freeman’s footsteps and join Fulham – but the fee for the defender will be decided by an independent tribunal.

Watson came through Gillingham’s youth ranks and made 80 appearances in four years at Priestfield but was told he would be surplus to requirements by Tony Pulis over the summer. The Cottagers believe signing the versatile 21 year-old is a significant coup as he also had interest from Exeter City and Barnet but opted to move to Craven Cottage after talks with Fulham boss Micky Adams.

The date for the tribunal, which has to be convened because the two clubs were unable to agree on a fee for Watson, has yet to be decided.
