Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel has rubbished rumours that a proposed move to Fulham was the reason why Martin O’Neill left Villa Park.

The Sun’s Ian McGarry suggested on BBC Radio Five Live last night that a deal to sell Friedel was ‘the last straw’ for O’Neill, who resigned as Aston Villa manager yesterday, but the American international vehemently denied that there was any discussion of a move to Craven Cottage.

I have never had contact with Fulham or from Fulham. I have never had a conversation with Martin O’Neill about Fulham so I don’t really know where that came from.
