Marco Silva says Fulham have ‘ten days’ to ‘correct the things we haven’t done in the last three months’ as he continued to express frustration at the club’s recruitment during the summer transfer window.
The Cottagers’ head coach voiced concern at the ‘passive’ nature of Fulham’s recruitment before last weekend’s Premier League opener at Brighton. The Whites have only signed back-up goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte despite promising Silva significant strengthening after a quiet January window and the Portuguese boss was forthright during this afternoon’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s Craven Cottage clash with Manchester United.
Silva said:
“At this stage of last season, we had two to three players in. This season we had a plan, the plan has fallen through. It’s our fault, [we are not] active at all. We cannot be pleased. The plan has been there for many many months. We agreed on our direction. Now is the moment to take the best decisions we can. We have ten days, in May we had almost three months. We’re still working to correct things we haven’t done in the last three months. Some of our main targets are no more, let’s see what we can do to complete our squad. We have a good group, but we need help.”
The Fulham boss raised concerns about the brittleness of his squad with Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi expected to compete for Nigeria in the winter’s African Cup of Nations tournament.
“We don’t have another [set of players to] cover. We have three wingers, one is going to be out for seven to eight games. We have two strikers. Many things in terms of numbers are short. AFCON has an impact in our decisons. Alex [Iwobi] and Calvin [Bassey] will be out in a busy schedule for us.”
Silva did express pleasure that the Whites have resisted Atalanta’s attempts to lure Rodrigo Muniz to Italy.
“I’m very very pleased that we have interest for Rodrigo, we cannot be scared about it. It’s a very good sign. It’s up to us as a football club to be resilient, to be resistant, no negotiate and to say no. I don’t want to lose Rodrigo. He’s in contention [to start against Manchester United], completely. Rodrigo is likely to stay with us, let’s hope we can renew his contract.”
Get the players in as soon as possible!! Hire a D.O.F.to be involve in players as the present system is not working .!!!!!
Another rumour Mitrovic rejoining. He wants to return to London!! We are also going to sign five left wingers according to the rumours. There is still no mention of a holding midfield player which I think is a priority
This recruitment team is an utter disaster. It’s appalling to have not signed anyone. The Khan’s are a joke.
Don’t panic. TK has decided to come back and be Director of Football for a few days.
“Some of our main targets are no more” Do those targets include Kevin?
Our football club is a complete joke because Daddy Khan won’t get someone with football knowledge to take over from his son who has no interest whatsoever and doesn’t have a clue about the transfer window, please release him from the job.
I think this is the final straw for Marco Would not be surprised if he walks if not now defineately at the end of the season and who could blame him
What legacy would the Khans leave if they built a riverside stand that normal supporters can’t afford non financial backing for a good manager
The Khans will be lording it on Sunday with all the cronies because we are playing Moan Utd but I bet they won’t be here for games like Burnley etc who knows
