Tomorrow’s News of the World links Fulham with a loan move for Manchester City’s out-of-favour striker Felipe Caicedo.
The Ecuadorian striker, one of the youngest players to represent the South American nation at full international level having made his debut against Italy aged just 16, enjoyed a promising start to his City career under Sven-Goran Eriksson. Caicedo has scored eight goals for the Eastlands outfit, an impressive tally given that most of his appearances for the first team came from the substitutes bench, although Hughes nutured his talent when he took over from the Swede.
He scored in three straight games but struggled to hold down a regular place once City splashed the cash on big-name forwards. Caicedo, still a real prospect at just 21, has spent time on loan at Sporting Lisbon and Malaga of late but, with Fulham badly short of fit strikers on the eve of the season and with a move for Craig Bellamy still very much in the ‘paper talk’ category, Caceido could be a short-term fix on loan.
Given that Hughes knows both his ability and his limitations, this wouldn’t represent too much of a gamble. We’ll have to watch this space.
Hughes has never nurtured any talent! Don’t go there Big Phil, you know Hughes is a divisive manipulative character with no personality and an army of poisonous lackeys. ( edy nccskdfjfivi and jim bowen in particular!)
Maybe he will fit into hughes 1 and only tactic! He certainly lacks ‘spark’ in that regard.
I like fulham, but would wish mark hughes on any club! wish you guys got jol!
Good move for felipe, he needs prem experience. But yea agree, Hughes is an arse!
Wow, who left the door unlocked here?
As a Man City fan, I would recommend Caicedo as a loan option. He’s got some real abiility to hold up the ball and he is surprisingly skillful with the ball at his feet when he is doing so. Very good at spotting and making a timely pass for a teammate from a stationary position. I hope MCFC keep him for the long haul because he has promise, a great body for the Prem, and has looked very good for years starting for Ecuador’s national team (even playing well against Brazil, etc.).
I hate Mark Hughes, but have always had a soft spot for Fulham, so I’m torn, but will still support Fulham, as long as they aren’t playing City…!
He would be a better bet than Crocky Santa Cruz, and Fulham could manage the wage of this player without blowing their payments structure, so a win win.
