Fulham have rejected a £34.5m offer for Rodrigo Muniz from Atalanta, according to Pablo Oliveira and Sacha Tavolieri.
The Whites value their Brazilian striker at £50m and made their position clear to Atalanta president Antonio Percassi during a face-to-face meeting in London. The 24 year-old forward has told Fulham that he wants to play Champions’ League football and is keen to join the Serie A, who made Muniz their number one transfer target after selling Mateo Retegui to Al-Qadsiah.
According to reports in the Italian press, Atalanta are confident of striking a deal for the former Flamengo forward, who has turned down a new contract at Craven Cottage. Muniz has scored 26 goals in 97 games since signing for Fulham in August 2021 and his departure on the eve of the new Premier League campaign would represent a serious blow to Marco Silva, who has already criticised the club’s transfer policy this summer.
Fulham have already turned down similar bids from Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United for Muniz this summer.
Strikers cost big money. We’ve been quoted big fees when after players if you want him pay up or shut up we must play hard ball. So he’s turned down contract with us leaves him on small wages , we’ve another year on his contract and Fulham with another season option. So he can play for us when window closes or refuse and become forgotten man in two years he’ll sign with a release clause
The only thing which makes me question this is that Spurs put in a similar bid and they also have CL football this year, so why didn’t R9 have a strop about that?
The Italian media is always a bit sus and prone to, let’s be generous here, elaborating on the truth.
I don’t want the lad to go, but CL football must be more than tempting and could be a springboard for the rest of his career.
Or it could just be his agent, stirring the sticky brown stuff to get his boy a better contract which, if reports of his low (by Prem standards) wages are true, he deserves.
Hope he stays, that we offer him an improved contract and that we don’t cave until they offer a price which reflects his ability, potential and the fact that they’ve had months to put in a bid for a first teamer who’ll be hard to replace.
Make them pay the full 50 million and stick to your guns like other clubs. He has one year left on his contract plus a years option so no pressure to sell we hold the cards. Maybe first try and negotiate a new contract with him His agent is egging him on
Another ridiculous situation caused as a direct result of inaction.
Most ambitious clubs would have upgraded his contract as his efforts and hard work led to him becoming a valuable member of the team.
The latest quote from the club about not increasing the wage bill underscores a feeling that their ambition does not center on Europe at all but rather real estate development which is their main business.
Survival in the PL is the goal…very different to the ambitions of Marco …hence his days are numbered.
Crap, I was going to comment then saw Douglas beat me to it! So frustrating seeing talent leave when we climb to mid-table, because even the players know Fulham won’t budget to get even 2-3 players and push for their own Europe tourney play. It is bad enough that Muniz is stuck on a 1-striker system and is behind a vet who still has some scoring savvy. What a mess, on top of the annual leave-it-til-the-end mentality for transfers.
