Raul Jimenez was delighted to score the only goal of the game as Fulham beat Eintracht Frankfurt at Craven Cottage – but the goalscorer believes the Whites are ready for the new season.
The Mexican international curled home a majestic free-kick to give Marco Silva’s side a fine victory over Dani Topmoller’s man on the banks of the Thames. Jimenez told FFCTV:
“I’m really happy to finish the pre-season with the win and also with the goal. For me, it is always important to score to gain some more confidence and I’m really happy for the team.
The good thing is that I had some time to rest, but also it wasn’t that much, so it wasn’t difficult to fit into with the team again. So I’m doing well, I’ve had two weeks of working, so I’ve been doing my best and giving my best for the team as well. I think the team is ready, we’ve been getting some good results in pre-season. We know it is different when we start [in] the Premier League but we are going to give it our best to set our high standards and do great in the Premier League.”
Jimenez was also pleased to give the Fulham faithful something to savour:
It was really good. It was amazing to be back and give this happiness to the fans that came today to support us in the last game [of pre-season]. We really enjoyed the game, it was a little bit hot today, but it’s going to be like that in the first games of the Premier League [season], so we must be prepared for that. It was good test because Frankfurt finished [in] third place in the Bundesliga last year. It was good for us to be facing these kinds of things and we’ve ready.”
Of course we want to keep Muniz and hopefully he’s our future, but he hasn’t been back to his best in preseason since his injury at end of season . And Jimenez has been on fire for Mexico and was very good yesterday so must start at Brighton. No need to rush Muniz back I’m sure at some point Raul will need a rest at some point after not having much of a summer break
Only saw the brief highlights but thought Josh King looked very good. Hope he’s a starter this season.
Great free kick.
