Atalanta are sending a delegation from the club’s board to London to see if they can secure a new striker, according to reports in the Italian press.
Gianluca di Marzio suggests that Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz is the Serie A side’s top target to replace Mateo Retegui after the Capocannoniere joined Al-Qadsiyah for £56m. Retegui scored 25 goals last season and Atalanta are desperate to land a replacement for the Italian international. Fulham have been insistent that Muniz is not for sale this summer and placed a £50m price tag on the Brazilian, which has so far successfully warded off interest from Leeds United, who had two bids below that mark rejected, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
Atalanta believe they will be able to seal the deal after face-to-face negotiations led by their president Antonio Percassi. The Bergamo-based club also hold an interest in Crystal Palace forward Jean-Phillipe Mateta, to whom they could switch their attentions if they don’t get anywhere in the talks about Muniz’s availability. The former Flamego forward has two years left on his current deal, with Fulham holding an option for another year, and the Whites are talking to Muniz’s representatives about a contract extension.
We want to buy and not sell players. We are in a strong position as on contract with a years option. Lets move on getting him to sign a new long term contract and do A Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth tactic and put a price tag of 75 million plus on him
All the talk around Muniz, in a transfer season when there is so little talk about Fulham and half of the players the team IS linked with are startling 9s, makes me wonder if the team has decided to sell. Rodrigo is their most sellable asset. If they get 30 ish (and paid 8), it is a nice profit. Still, I don’t see how they replace him with the profits. It’s very strange.
This doesn’t look good. Why would they come over from Italy if they don’t think they can buy him. As Lojo said with the inflated prices for strikers we won’t be able to replace him, not even if we get 50 million for him.
As long as the price is right or swap for Ademola Lookman. We will still need a replacement No 9!
he is one of Marco’s favourite player’s if he leaves i can see Marco doing the same unless as John W suggested we receive north of 70 million for him then we would have to fid a replacement which is unlikely as we have yet to sign anybody in this windows Just wild rumours about a number of players
If he leaves I’m leaving. Had a gutfull of this mediocrity garbage.
Correction – Muniz has one year left on his current deal, with Fulham holding an option for another year.
Let’s hope Fulham can sort out a new contract and put an end to all this needless talk. If the club decide to sell him, what does that say about our ambition? I agree that Marco would leave.
He’ll go to Atalanta, Champions League football & being the main man.
Fulham fumble yet again. They’ve had so much time to tie him down but no! Penny pinch FC at it again.
1xGK, that’s it so far and the possibility of an injury prone winger returning. Our best players are at risk of moving, Muniz and Wilson. JP at Spuds. Hate this transfer window so far. Fed up with the refresh button. ? Silly season, why do we do it to ourselves……………….
Let’s be sensible about this. If we can make £50m from Muniz and sign a new striker with the money it’s a no brainer. I appreciate it’s a big if, but the money from Mitrovic/Palhinha helped us secure Raul, Traore, Berge, Anderson, Bassey, Sessegnon, Cuenca, Smith-Rowe. I agree we’d need to be 100% sure of a top level replacement, but I have no issue in principle letting Muniz go for that amount given the profit it will generate.
We should absolutely take £50m for Muniz BUT on the basis we are able to secure another striker this window. Given the way FFP works, £50m will allow us to upgrade our squad in several positions across the rest of this window and in January where it makes sense. I love Muniz, but £50m will provide significantly more value to Fulham than Muniz will. Think back to last season, the Mitrovic/Palhinha money got us Berge, Sessegnon, Smith Rowe, Raul, Traore. £50m is more than both Mitrovic or Palhinha brought in, so just think what It could do for us.
I must admit this does rely on a competent transfer policy though!
I’d hope that someone at Fulham removes their stained and smelly digit and sorts out a decent offer to keep Drigo here. Preferably before the Italians get to London.
He seems like a great lad and is liked and well integrated into the squad, and I think there’s still room for him to develop further.
As J says above, we’ve had plenty of time to negotiate a new contract and now it looks like we might have b*llsed it up big time. Hopefully the lure of playing in London in a better (paying) league will trump CL football, although I seriously doubt it.
With Romulo now off the table, I think we’d struggle to find an affordable replacement for R9. The only rumour that tickled my trout was Ivanovi? at Millwall, who would cost around what we offered for Romulo. Even then, I’d have seen him as an understudy for both Raúl and R9.
I really hope we don’t stuff up on this one and get him to re-sign, but I think the big, shiny bauble of playing in the CL will be too much to resist.
The very least I’d hope is that, if we do lose him, we screw La Dea for every penny we can get.
We can’t possibly go into the season with Raúl as the only 9 we have on the books. The end of last season shows we need 3 options up front. And I don’t want a ‘can play up front and both wings’ player as a replacement. Jack of all trades, master of none.
God. Football. Fish.
I sincerely hope he stays.
It’ll be a complete shit show if he does go, given the lack of incoming bodies in any position. I think this would culminate , as others have said of Marco saying “enough is enough
The one option is a straight swap for Lookman player for player I hope he we keep him we do need another striker we got rid ofVinicius the positives are Leno then our back four with Berge and Lukic in front of it then maybe Wilson ESR Sessignon and Muniz the problem is when someone gets injured we Need strong replacements like for like let’s wait and see
I thought Shahid Khan had turned loans into shares to create money but who knows
