A powerful piece in on the I website this evening blasts Fulham for treating their fans as an afterthought following the poor publication of the club’s pre-season tour of Portugal.
The Whites initially announced that Marco Silva’s side would play two public pre-season matches whilst on the Algarve next week. They announced one – against Nottingham Forest in Faro tomorrow – but have switched a scheduled game against Portuguese opposition planned for the end of next week to a behind-closed-doors match against Saudi side Al-Ittihad on Wednesday.
Many fans who have paid significant sums of money to watch the first-team squad in Portugal are far from impressed. The I’s article features contributions from three supporters who have shelled out their hard-earned cash, including CJ from London’s Original, only to be locked out of a pre-season game they were promised they could attend. It isn’t the first example of Fulham treating their loyal fans appallingly.
The Traveller would not have been impressed. Beard would have gone on the Booze and the rest would have sampled the local night life. TBT or what!!
I am surprised that this is worthy of comment. From the bull that Fayed dished out to similar rubbish from the Kahns WE DO NOT COUNT. This situation will only get worse as foreigners look on football as a revenue stream, and ignore the history and culture and the community. It was often quoted that the finances of football were such that the gate money was insignificant, that of course was before the realisation of tourist tickets at about £300.00. last time I looked.
I despair as to the future of football as much as I do about the state of this country. Both are marching hand in hand to oblivion.
Zippa, I couldn’t agree with you more.
Everybody seems to be so self-obsessed and fixated with money.
I’m sad to say I don’t recognise this country anymore.
Yes the info re Portugal was not that clear or good. Been a supporter since 1968 currently a STH and travel to about 60% of the away games and did a lot of the European tour in the haydays. I think as an OAP my ticket is very good but some of my youger friends find the cost of home tickets expensive and they believe that better costs and time can be had by following Fulham away. Don’t get me wrong l believe in charging the “tourists” we should maximise our revenue but if it goes to far then you are sacrificing the atmosphere at the expense of keeping the true fans atmosphere to help the team.
