Attacking midfielder Seth Ridgeon has signed a long-term contract with Fulham, the club have confirmed this afternoon.
The sixteen year-old starlet’s decision to commit his future to the Cottagers comes as a significant boost to the Premier League club, with the teenager having been expected to leave SW6 after being courted by the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
Ridgeon, who was part of Fulham’s under-21 squad last season and captained England’s under-17 side at the European Championships this summer, is widely regarded as one of the brightest schoolboy talents in the country. After signing his new deal, the midfielder told Fulham’s official website:
“It’s a very proud moment for me. I’ve been at the club since I was eight and gone all the way through, and now it’s a dream come true to sign with my boyhood club to keep the journey going.
“Signing here for a lengthy period shows that Fulham produce young players and allow them to have the opportunity here, so I think it’s the best place to be for my development.”
Given our past failures with young talent, securing the long term futures of King, Ridgeon and Luc is amazing work! I know a few teams were rumoured to be interested in Seth so for him to choose to continue his development here is amazing! Makes up for the very slow transfer window.
It’s refreshing to see him stay with us.
I always said that we’re I the Dad of Fabio and Sess,I would have encouraged both to do what Seth is doing.
Maybe Seth and parents were smart enough enough to look at the fate of those two.
Now Marco must find a way to keep the ball rolling and give Seth some first team game time.
Fantastic
What is the long term contract ? Really pleased but what has he signed up to?
Great news for FFC, and supporters a wise decision by Seth, his parents and his team mates probably spoke to him about it, we must also thank the Fulham staff including Tony Khan for putting a smile on our faces as beating off Chelsea (HA HA) Man Utd, Liverpool and others a great achievement,COYW.
No idea how good he is but it’s really pleasing for us to retain a promising young player in the face of the pressure and attractions of bigger clubs. If young players like this make it to regular first team football it will act as encouragement for others to stay in the future.
We have to learn to benefit from all the excellent work put into the academy players.
David C go on you tube and type in The best of Seth Ridgeon you will hold your head smile and say WOW, this boy is a young Stephen Gerrard but a better dribbler you will realize why all the clubs wanted him.
