Portuguese giants Benfica have made an enquiry regarding the availability of Fulham centre back Jorge Cuenca, according to reports from Europe.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolier reveals that the Eagles are interested in signing the 26 year-old Spanish defender, who made twelve first-team appearances in his first Craven Cottage campaign last year. Cuenca was linked to a return to a La Liga following reports that was homesick earlier this summer, but the centre half’s representatives quickly denied that was the case and the left-sided centre back rejected Rayo Vallecano’s approach to fight for a place in the Fulham first-team.

Cuenca, a highly-rated defender who won the UEFA Youth League with Barcelona, played 60 games for Villarreal before signing for Fulham last August. He has three years left on his current contract, with the Whites retaining an option for a further twelve months.
