Paul Brooker bagged a brace as Fulham rounded off their pre-season tour of Cornwall with a resounding win over Newquay this afternoon.
Micky Adams fielded two trialists in the shape of former Bolton goalkeeper Mark Walton and the ex-Bristol City defender Chris Honor. The Londoners took the lead in 29th minute when Simon Morgan rolled a ball through the home defence and striker Rob Scott fired clinically past the home goalkeeper. Morgan and Honor spurned good chances to extend Fulham’s lead early in the second period, but it was the talented teenager Paul Broker who doubled the lead.
The lively winger was quickest to react after the Newquay goalkeeper had pushed out a header from Mike Conroy and buried the close-range finish. Rod McAree, a half time substitute for Nick Cusack, lashed home a third from 25 yards before Brooker rounded off the scoring with his second of an impressive cameo. The youngster latched onto a through ball from Martin Thomas and rounded the goalkeeper to slot into an unguarded net.
Newquay kept pushing until the end but were denied a consolation goal when Kevin Rule, who benefited from the most dubious offside flag, to progress through into the penalty area was denied by Tony Lange.
