Fulham centre back Joachim Andersen hailed Marco Silva’s tactical acumen after a system switch and five changes saw the Whites bounce back from Saturday’s defeat by Crystal Palace with an impressive away win at Wolves.
Silva shuffled his starting line-up and fielded three centre backs at Molineux, where Fulham won the first time in the league for forty years. Speaking to TNT Sports after the final whistle, the Danish defender was delighted to return to winning ways:
“It was so important because we’ve done it too many times now where we’ve lost games where we should have won and then we’ve showed time and time again that we bounce back. We’ve done it again today. Well done to the team, the new players came in and did fantastically, so I’m really happy.
We have a three-game week, so of course some guys will be tired. It’s only three days after [the defeat by Crystal Palace], we’re not used to that. I think the manager thought let’s bring [in] some new energy and some fresh legs, so that was so important. Now, we will go again on Sunday against Manchester United.
Andersen, who scored an unfortunate own goal against his former employers at the weekend, admitted relishing the chance to play in a back three.
“I like to be in the middle of the three, of course. I played it with Palace before and with Denmark many, many times. It is a formation I enjoy and it gives me some freedom on the ball.”
The 27 year-old professed himself unaware of Fulham’s historic failures at Molineux but believes the Whites can take the momentum on to Old Trafford in the FA Cup,
I didn’t know that! It’s a tough place to come. The fans are good, good time and, of course, there are having some difficulties at the moments, but to come and here and win on a Tuesday night is a great effort.
It will be interesting to see what system Silva plays on Sunday. Will he opt for a back three again on Sunday to match their set up? Interesting too that Andersen says that a three suits him. Playing as a wing back certainly suited Sess on Tuesday. Much as I love Jedi he can’t score goals like our opener against Wolves.
