If it weren’t for my Google Reader I’d never have spotted this little snippet in this article on ESPN Soccernet. The article says that Fabio Capello is sending the England team doctor to check on Rooney, Rio et al but tucked right at the end is this;
Fulham striker Bobby Zamora can also expect a visit. His crucial goals during Fulham’s run to the Europa League final has given the 29-year-old an outside chance of an England call-up, but he has aggravated a long-standing Achilles injury.
Interesting. If Bobby is likely to be fit for the Final (cor, how good does that look!) then perhaps Capello will consider trying him out against Mexico on 24th May. As mentioned in the article, the provisional squad will be named on the 11th so it could be a good week for our top-scoring striker.
He certainly deserves a chance but I suspect that even if we can get him fit for the Final (!!!!) he’ll need an operation sooner rather than later.
