Roy Hodgson says he’s happy at Fulham despite press speculation linking him with a move away from Craven Cottage in the summer.
Sunday’s papers had tipped him as a potential successor to Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, while has also been suggested as a future England coach.
I am happy here at Fulham. I have got a contract here at Fulham. I am happy with the job I am doing.
My name is sufficiently strong at the moment to be linked with other jobs and, of course, that is flattering and it is nice to hear. But as far as I am concerned it is speculation because I am at Fulham.
We all prefer praise to criticism and love to hatred. It would be ludicrous to suggest I am not enjoying people saying and writing nice things about me and the team. But I am trying to keep a level head and keep things in perspective.
I cant help but read more into these comments from Roy; and not for any other reason than to ponder whether he has used the oppurtunity in responding to this speculation to instill some timely wisdom in his squad ahead of May 12. Could lines alluding to keeping ‘things in perspective’ and ‘a level head’ have the added purpose of being veiled reminders to his players – who are receiving thier own media plaudits in the wake of thier achievements in europe – that they have one more job to do (if not three!). He may have even been sucessful in keeping this fan in check! At the same time, im still standing up, because….
[On a sidenote: I’ve really enjoyed the hammyend commentary over the past few seasons, nice job guys. And COYW!]
Assuming that Blackburn aren’t going to get four points from matches against Arsenal and Aston Villa, a draw on Wednesday against Stoke should guarantee Fulham a top half finish.
They could even sneak into ninth should they get a four points from Stoke and a trip to the Emirates and Birmingham get beat at Bolton.
I’m compiling a list of possible replacements already should Roy leave this summer. I got some interesting thoughts but I refuse to publish anything at this point because it is my hope that Roy stays.
1) Avram Grant
2) Danny Murphy
3) Tony Mowbray
I don’t know about Grant and Mowbray, Tony’s showing at Parkhead leaves a sour taste to future endeavours. I’d like to see Danny Murphy in the dugout at the Cottage one day, but next year isn’t the time, just yet. I’d much prefer as I’m sure many others might, to see Roy Hodgson finish his career with a run of similar excellence at Fulham. Top four is out of the question, but a significant run of seasons in the top half, and possible European football, establishing FFC as a successful club would be a wonderful result.
Could you imagine if it was little old Fulham that the special one was interested in. haha we can dream!
Still no one beats Roy and I hope he finishes his career at Fulham in about a decade!
I hope Inter loses big in the CL Finals.
