Harry Wilson kept his cool from the spot by scoring the only goal of the game as Wales edged past Montengro in Cardiff last night to keep up their unbeaten start under Craig Bellamy.

The decisive penalty at the Cardiff City Stadium was the Fulham winger’s five goal in as eight games for his country following hot on the heels of his excellent strike in Iceland on Friday night. Wilson has won rave reviews from his international team-mates for his consistency – with Sorba Thomas declaring that he had taken over Gareth Bale’s mantle.

Thomas told the Independent:

“For me, there is no better player than Harry to take (over after) the reign of the man himself, Gareth Bale. He’s the best around and this is just the start for him. He’s going to improve. He’s a massive part in what the gaffer wants to do. He’s going to get better and better and he’s going to make us better and better.”

Wilson has played just 36 minutes in the Premier League this term, which Thomas admits to be being ‘confused’ by. Bellamy also lavished praise on the Fulham’s forgotten man:

“He’s so good, so good. You can use him in so many different areas. It’s his timing … he can get into so many different areas of the pitch. He’s so intelligent, he’s like a footballers’ footballer.

“I knew he was a good player, I was there when he made his debut and I’ve watched him from afar, but when you get the opportunity to work with someone at close range, he’s so good, such a talented footballer. Probably the way we play, he benefits massively. You see a real talent. When I’m watching him, I’m just like: ‘Wow‘. I know it’s not for everyone to recognise and pay big importance to it but watch him without the ball, how he presses, intensity, sprint distances. I knew that when I came into the job. We’re just seeing the talent he has.”
