Kenny Tete admits he can’t wait for Fulham to face West Ham United in the first London derby of the season tomorrow.
The Dutch full-back has been delighted to start all of the Whites’ Premier League fixtures this season having lost his place to Timothy Castagne last season – even if he feels Marco Silva’s side should have picked up more points so far.
“I’m feeling great and I’m happy that I could start all three games. Obviously we bought some new players, we have a great squad and we’re aiming to finish as high as possible. I think we deserved something in Manchester, we had a really good game [against Leicester City] at the Cottage with a great win and the last game [at Ipswich] could have gone either way.”
Tete is excited by Fulham’s strengthening of their squad over the summer but believes character will be key in continuing the Whites’ progress.
I think we have a really good group of lads, all roughly the same age and everyone has the same idea, so I think it will fit together really well. To be honest, we speak sometimes with the lads and they all say that our squad from the first year I was here was a really good one in terms of names, but I think this squad is also really strong.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about having good players; it’s also important that you have a good atmosphere and the right tactics, and how we work as a team. I think this year it feels good, so let’s see. Fingers crossed! My time here has gone quickly, especially with the journey we’ve been on. Going down, getting relegated, winning the Championship, staying in the Prem. It’s been a pleasure to be here.
The former Lyon defender is looking forward to locking horns with the Hammers tomorrow.
London derbies are always special and hopefully we can get a great result like last year. You never know, this is the Premier League. They’ve bought some new players and have a totally different team and coach. There’s something extra, so let’s see. I can’t wait actually!”
