Birmingham City could yet pull off the transfer deadline day signing of Jay Stansfield – after an apparent breakthrough in the intensive negotiations between the League One side and Fulham.

Blues have indicated a willingness to improve on their £10m bid that was rejected this morning by the Premier League side but the precise structure of the deal is still the subject of frenzied discussions. Stansfield, who scored thirteen goals in 37 games at St. Andrew’s last year, has reportedly agreed personal terms with City.

Any deal is dependent on Fulham signing a replacement for the England under-21 international before the transfer deadline. Head coach Marco Silva has previously insisted that he wanted Stansfield to stay at Craven Cottage as part of his first-team squad.
