Fulham are one of a number of clubs considering a late move for England international Joe Gomez after the defender was left out of Liverpool’s squad against Ipswich Town this afternoon as he considers his future.
The 27 year-old did not travel to Portman Road today and Paul Joyce, the northern football correspondent at the Times, reports that the Whites, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Chelsea are keen to sign the former Charlton centre back. Gomez has also attracted interest from a number of continental clubs.
Fulham head coach Marco Silva told his pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon that the club would bring in another centre back having seen Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream leave during the summer. Gomez’s versatility would make him an intriguing option, but Liverpool are expected to drive a hard bargain should their longest-serving squad member elect to leave Anfield.
He would strengthen our squad for sure, but i doubt he is willing to move to Fulham. Retainibg Pahlinha would have helped, especially considering he was on a long term contract
Just simply to select one defender from French Ligue must be cheaper than Premier League.
No chance. If he’s available, and that list of clubs is genuine, then he’ll go to any of the others in preference to us. There’s no way an international who’s been at a club like Liverpool all this time is going to sign for a team with no chance of European football when he’s still only 27.
He’s such a donkey ! Please no!
What we really need is a leader at the back besides being a cb to marshal the back line he does not show that quality and in the past he has had a lot of injuries at liverpool.
Why are we looking at players we should have made up a list in advance tosin had been going for 2 years
Well isn’t that the point Michael, it happens every year. We wouldn’t let Paulinho go to Bayern last time because we didn’t have a replacement for him. Two months ago we let him go and now, after the first game of the season guess what, we don’t have a replacement for him.
What a difference he would have made in the middle of the park last night at Old Trafford. Or a decent replacement might have. It’s the same as you point out with Tosin. Both very talented and important players and we’ve had over two months to replace them and like you, I can’t believe Marco Silva hadn’t handed in a list of potential players he wanted at least three months ago. We are amazingly lucky he is still here with us.
Never mind I expect our DoF will enjoy fishing around for a couple of loan signings on the last day of the window.
Sorry but do you really think that recruitment is like going to the supermarket with a list.
Totally agree Gomez won’t come to us we would be a last resort what’s happening about Andersen, Carlos etc or is that speculation same as Andre and Ntieki it’s really gone quiet
Other teams pick a target. Buy him and a couple of days later he has a medical and he’s signed. With us it like a butterfly approach the way we flit from one to another. When it does happen it’s so protracted. Did the team have a nice time in Brazil when they were bumbling through the Andre saga.
He is not coming here !!!Period !!
He won’t come and not the right fit for us anyway
Get Andersen and Andre and stop all this talking and actually do something about signing players, why are we always leaving it till the last minute of the transfer window.
That is what’s needed John B. Maybe that’s what’s in-the pipeline, who knows? It will be what it will be. We can speculate and opine until the cows come home but it will have diddly squat effect. I personally, and I know f all, would like to see these two at The Cottage. I am , however, not a football manager/coach, nor even a ball boy.?
Were never proactive only reactive.
