Marco Silva has said that Fulham will add a centre back and a defensive midfielder before the end of the August transfer window.

The Portuguese head coach is targeting those positions as he seeks to strengthen his squad ahead of the start of the Premier League season. Speaking during his press conference earlier this afternoon, Silva admitted his main priority was to find a new holding midfielder to replace the departed Joao Palhina:

“It is an area we going to sign a player, definitely. We are pleased that we have Sasa Lukic and Harrison Reed with us, they can play in that position, and higher up the pitch as well. But yes we are going to sign a player for that position.”

The Fulham boss also confirmed he wants to add another defender to his ranks.

“It’s clear, when you lose two central defenders. We signed Jorge Cuenca. We’re really pleased to have him with us. I think he’s going to be a big big surprise for everyone that doesn’t know him. It was a great opportunity in the market. He can play as a left back as well. That’s important. But yes, the central defence is another position we are going to cover. If it’s Premier League experience or not, the market will dictate sometimes. We talked about some names, lets see if they will be from the Premier League or abroad. But for sure we have to sign a player for that position.”
