Spanish central defender Jorge Cuenca has joined Fulham from Villarreal in a deal worth an initial £6.7m.

The former Barcelona academy graduate has signed a four-year contract at Craven Cottage – with Fulham holding an option to extend that deal by twelve months. The versatile 24 year-old is expected to be able to deputise for Calvin Bassey on the left side of central defence, although he has also lined up often at left back as well.

Cuenca told FFCTV tonight:

“I’m really, really happy. I’m so proud to be here. I’m so happy to be here and to play for Fulham. The club is an historical club and Craven Cottage is an historical stadium. I prefer Fulham because of the city, the club, obviously the historical stadium, and I want to play in the Premier League.”
