Defender Keith Oakes’ fourth goal of the campaign earned Fulham a point against Rotherham United tonight in front of Craven Cottage’s lowest gate of the season.

Winston Roberts put the Millers ahead with a fierce right-footed drive in the 25th minute and Ray Lewington’s strugglers found it difficult to break down a well-drilled Rotherham defence. Gordon Davies was frustrated on his 300th Fulham appearance as the hosts, who were without nine first-team players through injury, lacked imagination and creativity in the final third.

Oakes guided home a free header from Leo Donellan’s corner on the hour mark but neither side could find a winner in the final stages.

FULHAM: Vaughan; Oakes, Hicks, Carr, Cottington, Elkins, Donnellan, Skinner, Barnett, Davies, Pike. Subs (not used): Harlow.
