Two goals in two second half minutes gave Fulham a narrow victory over Third Division Colchester United in the first leg of their League Cup first round tie at Craven Cottage this evening.
Colchester had the better of the first half and took a shock lead six minutes before half time when young midfielder Mark Kinsella rifled into a fine right-footed shot to convert a precise cross from his player-manager Roy McDonough.
There was an element of fortune about Fulham’s equaliser as United midfielder Simon Betts put through his own net just before the hour mark under pressure from Gary Brazil. Sixty seconds later, Sean Farrell headed Fulham in front as he climbed highest to nod Duncan Jupp’s right-wing cross past visiting goalkeeper John Keeley.
