Fulham suffered a blow in their battle against relegation from the Second Division as Kevin Nugent’s clever header earned a point for Plymouth Argyle at Craven Cottage this afternoon.
The Whites took a valuable lead midway through the first half when skipper Simon Morgan headed home his fourth goal of the season. Argyle failed to clear Lee Tierling’s free-kick and Morgan popped up at the back post to nod home from the edge of the six-yard box with a perfectly placed looping header.
But Ray Lewington bemoaned his side’s failure to hold onto a lead once again – as the visitors come on strong in the second half. They forced an equaliser fifteen minutes from time when the home defence failed to react after Jim Stannard had done well to parry an effort from Wayne Burnett, with Darren Garner keeping the ball alive and whipping a ball into the near post where Nugent intelligently glanced a header beyond the helpless Fulham goalkeeper.
FULHAM: Stannard; Eckhardt, G. Thomas, Herrera, Pike, Jupp, Morgan, Tierling (Bedrossian 60), Ferney, Brazil, Farrell (Angus 75). Subs (not used): Harrison.
