Fulham cruised to their first home league win of the season as goals from skipper Simon Morgan and veteran centre forward Alan Cork clinched a comfortable victory over Wigan Athletic at Craven Cottage this afternoon.
Morgan set Ian Branfoot’s side on their way to a precious three points with a firm finish from Gary Brazil’s lay off after John Marshall had found space down the right flank. Cork missed two good opportunities in the first half and Brazil brought a fine save from Wigan goalkeeper Simon Farnworth when he curled an effort towards the top corner five minutes after the interval.
At the other end, Jim Stannard had to be alert to keep up a speculative shot from Ian Kilford but the Latics carried very little threat up front. Cork missed two sitters from close range before wrapping the points with a delightfully delicate chip over the stranded Farnworth from a tight angle in the top right corner of the Hammersmith End net. The former Wimbledon forward now has three goals in three games as well as a goal of the month contender for his stunning strike against Scunthorpe.
