Fulham are interested in bringing Ryan Sessegnon back to Craven Cottage this summer.
Sessegnon, who broke into Fulham’s first team as a sixteen year-old and scored 25 goals in 120 games, will leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the month after an injury-plagued four years since his £25m move following Fulham’s relegation in 2019. The 24 year-old made only one appearance for Spurs last season and, while both the player and Marco Silva are keen to explore a potential deal, there are concerns about the fact that Sessegnon has only played 86 games since leaving the Cottage. His most successful was on loan at Hoffenheim in 2020-2021, where he scored twice in 29 games.
Sessegnon, who starred as a left winger in Slavisa Jokanovic’s promotion winning side in 2018, struggled to establish himself at left back with Spurs but would offer valuable depth in two positions. Fulham are eager to add a younger left-wing option with Willian weighing up his future and 31 year-old Bobby De Cordova-Reid in talks to extend his current contract. The Whites will also need cover at left back for Antonee Robinson with Fode Ballo-Toure having returned to AC Milan.
Well, he’s a ‘one of our own’ known option. He may have been injury plagued but his potential is still there.
As much as I like him he is now injury prone and we can’t take a risk of bringing him back if he can’t play week in week out .
He was good for us before. In the Championship. But he’s been very poor since he left, in between lengthy spells of getting injured. He needs to drop down a league.
Old adage. Never go back. You feel it would be a real leap of faith. I guess if he costs us little or nothing and Marco thinks he can make a contribution then who are we to question it, but it looks a bit risky. On the other hand he was to costs big money then I’d question it on the basis it would prevent the purchase of a more suitable addition. Hopefully not another towards the end of their playing career. Do have sympathy it must be difficult to compete with the big boys for young players with potential.
