Former Chelsea first team coach Graham Rix appeared to throw his hat into the ring for the Fulham job on Radio Five Live this evening.

Rix, whose long tenure at Stamford Bridge was followed by thirteen months in charge of Portsmouth, praised the achievements of Jean Tigana at Craven Cottage.

“We shouldn’t forget what a great job Jean Tigana has done there over the last couple of seasons. They’ve played some great stuff and got into the Premiership – and the important thing is they stay in it.

When I got the sack at Portsmouth a few players were unhappy about it. It’s been a difficult situation for the Fulham players and whether it’s affected their performances I don’t know. But Fulham have got some really good players and a great foundation – their training ground and academy are spot on. There is no reason why they shouldn’t become a force in the Premiership.”

Rix then made his pitch to succeed Tigana permanently.

“I’ve worked with top players – we had a team of internationals at Chelsea who worked well and had a lot of success. I think I’ve got a lot to offer as a manager and a coach. Having been youth team coach I’ve got a way with youngsters, bringing them on and encouraging them. But I just want to get back into football. I’ve been out of it a long time and I miss it.”
