Arguably, Fulham produced the result of the week to draw 1-1 at Shakhtar Donetsk to progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League 3-2 on aggregate. However, they have paid the price a bit with an injury to in-form striker Bobby Zamora which could rule him out for the trip to the Stadium of Light.
It feels like Sunderland have not won in years! However, they have good players and a good manager in Steve Bruce and in light of Fulham’s travelling and a potential comedown from the elation of Thursday’s result, I’m backing the Black Cats to finally get a victory.
Don’t think there’s any doubt that our win in Donetsk was the result of the week. It topped the BBC World Service’s sports round-up on Thursday such was the significance of the departure of the last UEFA Cup winners and was the featured story on the UEFA website, but didn’t generate too much attention in the English papers. Why? Well there’s still that Bridge/Terry thing and Liverpool won …
Lawro saying we’ll lose is hardly anything new. I’d quite like to see the league table based on his predictions, I reckon we’d be in a worse state than Portsmouth!
Saw one before Christmas that suggested we’d be in 14th or something. Don’t know what it would work out as now.
Here we go. This table from December (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0Zu4Awvln-w/Sxja3G4-ZyI/AAAAAAAAANY/SVkquyVU_Fs/s1600-h/Lawro291109.jpg) has Fulham three points off the relegation zone. Predictably enough, Liverpool would have been third – not having lost at home. That tells you all you need to know about Lawro’s predictions.
As the original post on that blog notes, Lawro doesn’t do Wednesdays. Just doesn’t predict Wednesday games. Odd. Perhaps he doesn’t wake up on Wednesdays either.
