Fulham icon Jimmy Hill moved to Craven Cottage from Brentford in March 1952, initially appearing as a half back but he moved to the inside-right position after Bobby Robson had joined West Bromwich Albion four years later. He famously scored in every round of the FA Cup as the Whites reached the 1958 semi-finals before losing to Manchester United after the Munich air crash. He helped Fulham return to the top flight the following season and scored five times at Doncaster Rovers as they closed in on promotion.
Hill was the national chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association and successfully fought for the abolition of the maximum wage, moving into management with Coventry City when a knee injury brought his playing career to a premature close. He became a popular television pundit, before being appointed Fulham’s commercial manager and famously formed a consortium that saved the club after the Fulham Park Rangers plan hit the headlines. He was chairman until 1997 when Mohamed Al-Fayed took over. Hill died aged 87 in December 2015.
