Fulham midfielder Sean Davis has vowed to win his battle with second season syndrome.

Davis was a regular in the headlines last campaign as his swashbuckling performances at the heart of a Cottagers midfield helped them steamroller their way to the First Division title.

The England under-21 international was tipped to be one of Fulham’s key players in the top flight this term, but he admits to struggling to cope with the physicality of the Premiership. The homegrown product was dropped for Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich but is believes Jean Tigana’s decisions can be the catalyst for a return to form.

Davis told Sky Sports:

“I couldn’t have written a better story for me last season but the second season is always the hardest and I know that now. I’m still young and still learning. I’m the first person to say that I haven’t performed to my potential in the Premiership yet. I have held up my hand and said that.

“The manager has dropped me but hopefully when I get my chance I can get back to how I was playing last season. I’m working hard in training and know I’ll be back to my best soon.”

Davis, who made his debut as a 17-year-old, has clocked up 97 first class games for the club and despite his tender age has already played in every division of the football league.
