Astrid Johannessen saved four spot-kicks as Fulham Ladies beat Arsenal to lift the Women’s League Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the County Ground this afternoon.
Rachel Yankey looked to have given the Cottagers the silverware when she opened the scoring against her former club with two minutes remaining, but Ciara Grant equalised in the ninetieth minute to force extra-time. Johannessen’s heroics in the penalty shoot-out that followed thirty scoreless minutes allowed full-back Kim Jerray-Silver to convert the decisive penalty.
