Marco Silva was pleased that Fulham reached the fourth round of the League Cup after a 2-1 win over Norwich City – but felt his side should have been more ruthless.

Goals from Carlos Vinicius and Alex Iwobi had given the Londoners a commanding advantage in what was a very open tie, but the Whites were made to sweat after Canaries’ substitute Borja Sainz halved the visitors’ arrears. Silva told his post-match press conference at Craven Cottage:

“It was a good game for us, I believe. We took the competition really serious, and we deserve to be there in the next round. Overall it was good for us, and we are going to be serious, like always, in the Carabao and FA Cup when we come to play.

They are competitions that we’re going to look at seriously, always prepare as important games for us, to give us a good opportunity to keep in the competition. We have created a big number of chances, of course we have to be more ruthless, we have to be more effective in some moments. When the ball arrives in certain areas inside the box we have to finish the moments. We cannot go from the right to the left so many times to make the last pass, the last cross.

Okay, it was great from Norwich, the way they defend the box in some moments, but we must be more assertive in those moments, we should have created more chances and scored more goals, because we created enough.”

The Fulham head coach was delighted to see Iwobi open his Fulham account towards the end of his first start for his new club.

“As you know, he’s a player that I know really well. I was responsible for him signing for Everton as well. A player that I know what he can do for ourselves in many different positions on the pitch. He has quality, he’s dynamic, and his energy, as well, means he’s going to be another important player for us.”
