Fulham have seen a £7m bid for Nwanwko Kanu rejected by Arsenal, according to The Guardian.

Arsenal’s £10m valuation of their Nigerian international could scupper Jean Tigana’s hopes of signing the 25 year-old with the French boss having told Fulham to look at other targets including the Lyon centre forward Steve Marlet. An agreement with Arsenal appears unlikely at this point – frustrating Tigana further after his attempts to sign Jan Koller and Freddie Kanoute failed.

Kanu was frustrated last season by Wenger’s rotating of his four forwards – who have now been supplemented by the arrival of Francis Jeffers in August. Kanu, who started just thirteen Premiership games, scoring three times. The striker’s agent Frank Sedoc insisted yesterday:

“There is no chance of Kanu moving before the start of the season. We have to be ready for Japan next summer, that is very, very important,” he said, referring to the World Cup. “It’s a big season for Kanu and he needs to be playing.”

Tigana is willing offer the 6ft 5in striker regular first-time football with both Barry Hayles and Louis Saha not having much expensive of the top flight of English football. Luis Boa Morte, a former Arsenal forward, will miss the first three matches of the season after being sent off
