Mohamed Al-Fayed has told Chelsea chairman Ken Bates that Fulham are ‘coming after them’ after watching his Second Division side dump Premiership Southampton out of the FA Cup last night.

The Fulham chairman visited the home dressing room ahead of the Whites’ FA Cup replay last night and insists his dream of guiding London’s oldest professional outfit to the top flight is far from fanciful after Kevin Keegan’s men beat the Saints courtesy of Barry Hayles’ late winner.

Al-Fayed told the Daily Mirror:

“I always pop into the dressing room before kick-off to have a chat and make sure everything is okay. Some chairmen are so aloof they seem to think they are gods. But I want to show the players and fans we are in this together. This is the first time I have given the players gold-plated chocolate before a game, but if we get to Wembley, who knows? There might be real gold inside the wrapping next time!

This place is more than a football club – it’s an institution. My dream is to lead us into the Premiership, and I don’t see why we can’t make that happen in eighteen months. We all chase rainbows – and this is mine. Chelsea may be top of the Premiership now, but tell Ken Bates we are coming after them.”
